A company committed to the ecological transition

For over 10 years, Maison Barrault has been taking concrete action to limit its impact on the environment. Reduced inputs, water recycling, responsible energy management... Every stage of our production is designed to be more respectful of nature.

We have opted for sustainable production, based on reasoned agricultural practices, recognized certifications(Plante Bleue, MPS, AB, Global G.A.P.) and actions in favor of biodiversity.

For us, committing to the ecological transition means producing differently, more responsibly, for the benefit of both the environment and our customers.

🌿 Preserving biodiversity

Reasoned and controlled agriculture

At Maison Barrault, we adopt a "culture raisonnée" approach that effectively reduces our consumption of water, fertilizers and phytosanitary products. Thanks to computerized monitoring, we are able to measure consumption by surface area, crop and type of product, enabling us to adjust our practices in real time.

Sustainable water management

Over 85% of the water used on our site is collected, treated and reused in our irrigation system. Two ponds, 8,000 m³ and 6,000 m³ in size, ensure crop watering by storing rainwater and runoff from watering operations.

Encouraging local biodiversity

We plant hedgerows to protect our crops from the wind, separate plots and encourage natural habitats. Flowering hedges and grassed paths create ecological corridors that attract insects and birds. We also install nesting boxes, bat shelters and insect refuges to promote the natural regulation of pests.

🐞 Integrated Biological Protection (IBP)

In our covered greenhouses, we introduce auxiliary insects to fight pests naturally, replacing chemical treatments. Regular health monitoring helps prevent harmful, invasive or environmentally hazardous organisms.

🌍 Reducing carbon footprint

Eco-responsible logistics and mobility

We optimize journeys between our sites and our customers thanks to adapted vehicles and partners such as Uni't and Végésupply. Reusable Danish rolls are preferred to disposable packaging. Internally, we use shared cars, electric vehicles and bicycles.

Redesigned infrastructure

A centralized dock makes it easier to receive trucks and reduces maneuvering. We have replaced our coal-fired boilers with a liquefied natural gas (LNG) boiler, a clean energy source. All our plastics are REACH-compliant, recyclable and carbon black-free.

♻️ Responsible waste management

We recycle 95% of our recyclable waste thanks to rigorous sorting: paper, cardboard, plastics, batteries, ink cartridges, green waste, phytosanitary containers. Discarded plants are handled by Anjou Biomasse, which separates the cups from the plants for recycling.

🔥 Energy and heating: sobriety and performance

Greenhouse heating relies on LNG boilers, fuel oil and an Open Buffer hot water storage system. Three climate computers enable precise control of temperature, ventilation and shading. In the offices, air conditioning is reduced at night and at weekends, and automatic closing systems limit energy losses.

💧 Water recovery and treatment

An efficient irrigation network covers all 32 hectares of production. Every year, almost 70,000 m³ of water are recycled. Two ponds collect rainwater and irrigation water, with regular monitoring of quality. Watering is adapted to requirements: sprinkler, drip, mist, sub-irrigation or manual cart.

🔄 Everyday global recycling

We recycle all our resources: wastewater, plastics, paper, batteries, cartridges, metals, green waste, thanks to specialized partners (CAT, Alise, chambers of agriculture, etc.). Sorting bins are installed throughout the site to facilitate and encourage the daily act of sorting.

🌼 A sustainable horticultural business

At Maison Barrault, we believe it's possible to produce better, while respecting the planet and future generations. Every action, every choice of cultivation or equipment, is part of a sustainable approach. Our goal: to combine horticultural performance and ecological commitment for a greener future 🌱.
